Trainers and Advisors

The CIEC aims to improve the quality of science education, particularly investigative skills, and encourages schools and industry to work in partnership to this end. Our printed and web-based resources all place science in the context of science-based and manufacturing industries.

The Children Challenging Industry project is a well-established training initiative offering primary teachers in the north of England continuing professional development that includes initiation of structured links with local industry. Research evidence of the impact of the project indicates a raising of the level of achievement in science at the schools involved.

Training through the Primary Science Enhancement Programme is available to a wider section of the education community throughout the UK. CIEC provides training for Local Authority Advisors, Advanced Skills Teachers, Specialist Schools and Business links organisations who are working with clusters of primary schools to improve investigative science teaching and links with local industry. Support to implement the training of primary teachers and build strong links with industry is given following initial training for the project.

A number of CIEC staff are involved with delivering training through the National and Regional Science Learning Centres.
